Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13.

OFFENSE OF PROHIBITED WEAPONS<br /> <br /> Under present law, a person commits an offense by intentionally or knowingly possessing, manufacturing, transporting, repairing, or selling prohibited weapons. The severity of the offense and punishment prescribed for a violation of this provision varies by the type of weapon involved. This bill provides that it is a Class E felony, punishable by no less than one year and a maximum of six years imprisonment, a $3,000 fine, or both, for a person to intentionally or knowingly possess, manufacture, transport, repair, or sell a switch or auto sear device designed, made, or intended for use in converting a weapon to shoot automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.<br /> <br /> EXEMPTION FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT<br /> <br /> Present law clarifies that a person does not commit the offense as described above if the person is in full compliance with the requirements of the National Firearms Act. This bill adds that a person in full compliance with such act is similarly exempted from such an offense when the weapon involved is a switch or auto sear device.<br />
