Amends TCA Title 40, Chapter 35, Part 3.

Tennessee HB0341 amends existing law regarding the collection and submission of biological specimens for DNA analysis from individuals convicted of felony or qualifying misdemeanor offenses. The bill mandates that such specimens be gathered within 30 days of sentencing, or before the completion of a short incarceration term, and requires the commissioner of correction or local jail administrators to order this collection. Additionally, it allows law enforcement agencies to submit biological specimens from deceased offenders who were previously convicted of qualifying offenses to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, regardless of the conviction date.
